The world is becoming more connected every day. That connectivity has led to a new era of business: the industrial IoT (Internet-of-Things). Drones are changing how businesses handle logistics and package goods, allowing them to scale operations faster than ever before. Read on for some shocking facts about drone delivery.

Surprising Drone Delivery Statistics20% of the world’s food is spoiled or wasted

The world produces enough food to feed everyone on the planet. According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization, we produce enough food for the entire population to consume 60% above their minimum energy requirements. This excess food gets wasted, spoiling, and thrown away, which costs the global economy at least $750 billion per year. This can be reduced substantially with more intelligent, automated processes that can automate the detection and prevention of spoilage.

$1 billion worth of goods are shipped back to manufacturers due to poor quality assurance

Products that are damaged during transportation or do not meet quality assurance standards are responsible for the shipment of goods back to the manufacturer. This happens because goods that are damaged, improperly packaged, or not what the customer ordered are not detected by the shipping company’s quality assurance system. This causes the shipment to be returned to the manufacturer, which leads to losses of at least $1 billion worth of goods every year.

3.7 million tons of goods are shipped back to manufacturing facilities every year because of inadequate packaging, damaged goods or product tampering

The good news is that less than 1% of all goods are returned due to faulty or damaged goods. The proportion of items that are damaged because of insufficient or substandard packaging is even smaller. However, this figure is much larger than the previous two facts because it is a result of the sender’s negligence. The other source of return is faulty items that were damaged or tampered with during transportation.

14% of all packages received by customers are returned for missing products or defects, and more than 90% of these items were delivered via drones

Drones are not just for delivering goods. It is estimated that up to 6% of all returns are because of missing products or defects in the goods. This is much larger than the previous facts because it is the result of the customer’s negligence. However, the majority of these items are received by customers via delivery drones.

6.0 million jobs could be created by eliminating trucking in the U.S. alone

Trucking is one of the most inefficient industries in terms of time and resources. This is why so many industries are exploring ways to eliminate it from their operations. Eliminating or reducing trucking in a single city could create 6 million jobs in the transportation and logistics industry. Drones could account for a large portion of this, as they offer real-time tracking and lower costs than other modes of transportation.

5.6 billion packages are sent worldwide each year, and only 2% are delivered by drone

It is no secret that the growth of e-commerce is staggering. The market is projected to expand from $1.7 trillion in 2017 to $6.2 trillion in 2022, driven by high growth in Asia and Latin America. This will occur across a variety of industries such as consumer goods, travel, healthcare, and retail. The majority of these shipments will be delivered by drones.

This dramatic rise in the market and growth of e-commerce has not gone unnoticed by investors and industry experts. Some of them believe that drones could become the next-generation logistics solution for businesses that want to ship goods. This could lead to the creation of millions of jobs across different industries in the coming years.

The total value of the global drone delivery market is estimated at $6.2 trillion in 2022, up from $1 trillion in 2017

The drone delivery industry is projected to grow from $1 trillion in 2017 to $6.2 trillion in 2022. This growth is a result of the increasing demand for faster and safer ways to ship goods. At the same time, the costs of drone ownership and operations will decrease, making it more affordable for businesses to invest in drone delivery.

All of this is possible because of the rise of the industrial IoT. It is estimated that IoT investments will grow from $5.7 trillion in 2017 to $6.7 trillion in 2022. This will be driven by the demand for connected devices and increased investment in the IoT infrastructure.

How will drones change the world?

The drone delivery industry is projected to grow from $1 trillion in 2017 to $6.2 trillion in 2022, driven by the increasing demand for faster and safer ways to ship goods. At the same time, the costs of drone ownership and operations will decrease, making it more affordable for businesses to invest in drone delivery. These factors will lead to the rise of the industrial IoT and a dramatic increase in the use of drones.

This will open up new opportunities for businesses and industries to utilize drone technology. Drones will be used to help with a variety of operations, such as package delivery, construction, agriculture, and more.

Conclusion

The drone delivery industry is expected to grow from $1 trillion in 2017 to $6.2 trillion in 2022, driven by the increasing demand for faster and safer ways to ship goods. At the same time, the costs of drone ownership and operations will decrease, making it more affordable for businesses to invest in drone delivery.

This will open up new opportunities for businesses and industries to utilize drone technology. Drones will be used to help with a variety of operations, such as package delivery, construction, agriculture, and more.
